The Story and People Behind Castlock...

Castlock was originally developed by Kris Smith, a world-renown, subject matter expert on RSS technology and podcast production. Kris began podcasting for the Croncast show in November 2004. In early 2005 he founded the world's first podcast production company, Palegroove Studios, Inc ("internet time stamps don't lie").

As a natural innovator and metrics hound, Kris was often frustrated by the lack of tools providing insight to the likes of RSS subscriptions, podcast downloads, time of day listeners were tuning in, etc. He also found that common blog platforms lacked the level of RSS feed management he would expect an enterprise or professional podcaster would eventually require.

In conjunction with efforts to launch an online podcast magazine, ID3, in 2005, Kris wrote Castlock to better manage RSS and the measurement of podcasted media. Taking the application a step further, he included a full-featured online subscription component with credit card processing and individualized authenticated (password protected) RSS feeds. The magazine is now defunct - but the Castlock application found its way into Fortune 500 client solutions ranging from RSS strategy to podcasting and distance learning scenarios.

While working with Room 214, a search marketing and social media agency, throughout 2006, Castlock’s value became apparent not only as a RSS mediacasting platform – but also as a means of significantly increasing search visibility for specific topics or search terms within major search engines and social media platforms.

In January of 2007, Kris joined Room 214 full time as Vice President of New Media, and a joint venture (RSSready, LLC) was formed between Kris and Room 214 co-founders, James Clark and Jason Cormier, to focus exclusively on the continued development and support of Castlock.

Now in its third version release, Kris Smith’s original vision of Castlock continues to expand - as does the demand for such applications. You can catch up with Kris at one of the many industry trade conferences he’s known for attending (often as a presenter).
